Mount Fuji (富士山) is the tallest peak in central Japan at 3,776'm . Fuji is a volcano that last time erupted in 1707, it mainly straddles the border of Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures on the west of Japanese Capital, from which it can sometimes be observed on a sunny day. It is situated near the Pacific Ocean coast of Honshu. 3 small towns surround it: Gotemba, Fujiyoshida and Fujinomiya.

According to folklore, the volcano was come into being in 286 bc by an undersea earthquake. The reality is a bit more complex. The actual age of Mount Fuji is not real known, but the 1st eruptions and the initial peaks possibly naturally occurring some 600 thousand years ago. Although Mount Fuji looks like a clean cone style volcano, it actually is in reality 3 distinct volcanoes, Komitake, Ko Fujiand Shin Fuji. The most recent Shin Fuji initially became active about 10 thousand years before and has remained still since to smolder or explode from time to time. Over the previous millennium, the hot lava and other blowups from Shin Fuji have covered over other 2 older volcanoes, enlarged the rocky slopes to their present spread out girth, and give it the present conical form. The volcano is element of the Fuji Volcanic Region, a volcanic mountain chain that stretches out from the Mariana Islands and the southern Izu Islands through Izu Peninsula on up to northern Honshu.

Mount Fuji's extraordinarily balanced cone is a highly recognized icon of today Japan and it definitely is often shown in fine artwork and photos, as well as frequently visited by tourists and rock climbers.

Fuji is bounded by 5 beautiful lakes: Kawaguchi, Sai, Yamanaka, Shojiu and Motos. They offer superb views of the peak. The Fuji Mountain is situated in the Fuji Hakone Izu National Park. Because it is a stratovolcano, the weather is extremely cold due to the higher altitude and the mountain is covered up by snow for a most of months of the year. The lowest ever recorded temperature really is minus 38 C while the high temperature was logged at plus 17.8 C.

It can also be observed from Tokyo, Yokohama, and on occasion as far away as Chiba when the atmosphere is cloudless.

The most popular time for mass to hike Fuji is between first July and end of August, while all facilities are functioning. Buses to the 5th station start operating at 1st July.

There also are four major ways from the 5th station to the top with an additional four different routes from the bottom. Even though it is just the second in fifth stations, the Kawaguchiko route absolutely is the most attractive way because of it has large car park lots of and big rocky mountain huts where a strong climber can take a break. During the summer, most Fuji bus tours come there. The next popular currently is the Fujinomiya way which also has the highest fifth place.

Fuji san really is sometimes mentioned as 'Fujiyama' in some Western articles, but it is not acceptable in Japanese. The frequently seen 'Mount Fujisan' is also unnecessary since the suffix already means mountain.
